2020 Springfield Puerto Rican Parade Goes Virtual
SPRINGFIELD– Due to COVID-19 concerns, organizers of the Springfield Puerto Rican Parade have decided to cancel this year’s event. This would have been the 30thyear the parade made its way down Main Street and celebrated the many accomplishments of the city’s Puerto Rican community.
While the parade committee had envisioned big things for their 30thAnniversary, they know that this was the best decision. “We were so excited to celebrate 30 years of the parade’s existence, but the health and safety of our community is far more important,” said Victoria Ann Rodriguez, Parade Committee President. That being said we, didn’t want this milestone to pass without celebrating with the community in some way,” she added.
Like many other events celebrated during the pandemic, this year the parade will be going virtual. The live broadcast will take place on Sunday September 20, 2020, the same day the live parade would have been held. The community will be able to view the broadcast on the parade’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
The committee made the announcement via a video posted to their social media pages and website. More details are expected as the event gets closer. Including this year’s parade theme and other options for the community to celebrate Puerto Rican culture in a way that is safe and socially distant.
